WEDNESDAY 7 MAY 2025: ACHIEVEMENT. NINE YEARS 158 DAYS

Went to the studio. It felt a bit pointless working on an old painting so grabbed the wooden lid from the crate Matt made for my things and started painting. This came out immediately and it felt so good to capture Scotland *****

Visiting my friend Anne-Sofie in Amager. Went to a Music quiz at her local pub called Stamstedet which means ‘the local (pub)’.
We lost but had a good time.
Bicycled home in the dusk.

SUNDAY 4 MAY 2025: ACHIEVEMENT. NINE YEARS 155 DAYS

More fun to be had on the Sunday..such beautiful weather and a really great venue. Happy days.*****

It is a tradition in Denmark every year in the evening of the 4th of May to light candles and put them in the windowsill.
It is a symbol of freedom and done to commemorate the end of 2nd world war.
Denmark (or most of Denmark, not Bornholm) was liberated on the 5th of May

FRIDAY 2 MAY 2025: ACHIEVEMENT. NINE YEARS 153 DAYS

Drove from Northamptonshire to Bristol stopping to brew coffee along the way. Dropped Otto at Noah’s student house with supplies. Filled a helium balloon for Hazel’s 50th and drove to the Feeld Good Bar to surprise Hazel and let the shenanigans begin.*****

Out with colleagues after work and home alone, so late night dinner with beetroot salad and toast with scrambled eggs and salmon.

THURSDAY 1 MAY 2025: ACHIEVEMENT. NINE YEARS 152 DAYS

I ran my first 5k along the Hermitage in 32 minutes. I then packed up and drove down to Northamptonshire. Stopped to brew some coffee in a restaurant area and made friends with a Norwegian metal band on tour. Heavy traffic around Warrington led to a pit stop down a random cul-de-sac to cool Otto down as it was crazy hot. Finally reached Phillip’s for a night time catch up*****

1st May, workers celebration in Fælledparken. A celebration of democracy and a lot of singing and drinking pints.

WEDNESDAY 30 APRIL 2025: ACHIEVEMENT. NINE YEARS 151 DAYS

Swim, coffee, got my paints out and painted 2 paintings before I packed up and drove back to Edinburgh. Had a gorgeous evening with Emily, Emilia and Josh having a barbeque and feeling happy after such a special roadtrip.*****

Getting out of town and into the beautiful spring forest on my mountainbike.
The beech fluorescent green and fresh and plentiful anemones still covering the forest floor.

TUESDAY 29 APRIL 2025: ACHIEVEMENT. NINE YEARS 150 DAYS

Walked through the forest, morning swim, relaxed pack up and set off south. Was soo tired and happy. Headed for the Cairngorms but struggled to find a good spot for camping. Kept going down roads that brought nothing to fruition. Was about to give up and drive back to Edinburgh but tried one more little road and it was one of my favourite spots yet. Relaxed and had a camp fire by the river *****

Airing my hakama on the french balcony after a particularly humid Aikido training.

MONDAY 28 APRIL 2025: ACHIEVEMENT. NINE YEARS 149 DAYS

Decided to stay another night. I have such itchy feet I sometimes don’t ‘stop’ enough when travelling. It is good to be reminded that memories usually come from the days of presence rather than constant movement. Swim before breakfast, proper coffee and warmed milk, and a lovely chill day. I did however get busted by a fishing gillie and his 2 fishermen. I managed to swing it by offering tea and friendliness…

Then my wild spot expert came down for an evening swim and to take me away for the evening…*****

Out for a run and spotted these amazing creatures on the savannah.
In Frederiksberg Have, a big park in Copenhagen/Frederiksberg, there is corner joining up to the Copenhagen zoo. So all visitors of the park can catch a view for free to the elephant area in the zoo.

SUNDAY 27 APRIL 2025: ACHIEVEMENT. NINE YEARS 148 DAYS

Went a run / walk before breakfast along the Cromarty Firth. Left the Black Isle and drove to Findhorn to meet up with Ginger Dan from Val d’Isère days. Met his wife and sons for the first time. It was such a lovely day. Walking on the beach, playing, catching up. Felt like minutes since we’d seen each other but it was actually about 14 years….Had lunch at the Bakehouse and was given a perfect tip for a wild camping spot. We looked round the Findhorn Foundation…which was such a bizarre mix of Denmark (the architecture) and Scotland so both parts of my blood united. The wild camping spot was like a treasure hunt…and ended up with company, pea, mint and bacon soup and flapjacks…*****

Found this amazing Stone on Udsholt Strand.

SATURDAY 26 APRIL 2025: ACHIEVEMENT. NINE YEARS 147 DAYS

A beautiful walk on the estate Lizzie manages. Bluebells, a skinny dip, birdsong, cullenskink and pizza in Cromarty, then home for a cosy fun evening*****

So on this corner where the stones are there used to be a bamboo bush, but after a couple of hours fighting I managed to clear it out. So happy, I don’t mind bamboo as such, but it’s not a local plant and it is not a great plant next to a house, so away it went.

FRIDAY 25 APRIL 2025: ACHIEVEMENT. NINE YEARS 146 DAYS

Swim in the sea before breakfast, proper coffee, then a hike inland finding mini loch after loch, rolling scrub landscape and distant mountains. I also made a ‘performance piece’…a dance video in the wilds 🥰 Packed up drove north then back down to the Black Isle to visit The Campbells…lovely dinner and wine catching up with my old buddies *****

Day off and aikido, yeah.

THURSDAY 24 APRIL 2025: ACHIEVEMENT. NINE YEARS 145 DAYS

From saying goodbye to the slightly handsie old farmer at Loch Lochy to an hour and a half north of Ullapool. Fish and chips on the beach in Ullapool and a food shop. This is the beach my niece had recommended, walked along it at sunset and then drove north…persevered and found a perfect spot with a private beach near Clashnessie.*****

So just another day at the office until a colleague from another department asked if I could be willing to be interviewed for a small video that is going to be shown at a nursing conference in 3 weeks.
The original participant was sick, so they needed a substitute.
No preparation and not a fan of seeing or hearing myself on screen, but lines the theme of the video; it was about promoting a common goal for nursing care throughout the hospital and regardless of speciality or department with the headline Tryghed under sygdom ( feeling safe/secure during illness, not a precise translation, but something along that way)
Didn’t get a picture of the whole set up, so this is a picture of me on the way home in the elevator.

WEDNESDAY 23 APRIL 2025: ACHIEVEMENT. NINE YEARS 144 DAYS

A perfect morning at my first wild camp spot on my roadtrip. Made a bird surveyor a cup of tea, got busted by an estate manager but by the end of the really lovely chat he said “if you decide to stay again tonight….” so that was a win….Packed up and drove north seeing some stunning glens and ending up at Loch Lochy…*****

Only picture I took all day.
An invitation to an afternoon of education and inspiration about current research and studies taking place at our ward the heart valve unit.

TUESDAY 22 APRIL 2025: ACHIEVEMENT. NINE YEARS 143 DAYS

I had a fun morning with my nieces and great nephew in Edinburgh. Then I drove north to just beyond Callendar to do some wild camping with Otto. Found a pretty spectacular spot and had a blissful golden hour meander nearby. As I looked into this abandoned cottage a huge white owl flew out of it somehow missing my head. It was a huge surprise and a very special moment.*****

After work, met up with a treasured colleague that is currently on maternity leave. We went to an event about heart failure which was held as part of the day of science and research (Forskningens døgn). An event meant to boost support and awareness to science and research.
Really exciting to meet a lot of young and clever scientists studying the tiniest molecules to understand the heart better.
This is a ratheart and in the top left corner a mouse heart.

Easter monday chilling and going for a stroll around our neighbourhood. This is from J.C. Jacobsens have (J.C. Was the founder of Carlsberg and actually lived in this house)

SATURDAY 19 APRIL 2025: ACHIEVEMENT. NINE YEARS 139 DAYS

A lovely walk with Emily and Emilia along the Hermitage and up Blackford Hill. Unfortunately Emily slipped and hurt her leg so we hobbled with her back down.****

Finally getting around to repot this palm tree that I bought 10 years ago and which is struggling to keep the roots underground in its tiny pot. Hope it will be happy in its new pot.
Remember being able to carry the palm tree home from the shop 10 years ago and think it has doubled in size.
