EIGHT YEARS 335 DAYS / DAY ONE HUNDRED AND EIGHTEEN: WEDNESDAY 30 OCTOBER 2024

Went to kundalini yoga at 7 to try and combat my anxiety. It brought up all the emotions and I could feel my throat chakra so much I could hardly swallow. What I realised was sad and led to two broken hearts.

So big achievement; managed to leave the house without bringing my phone, so no camera all day. Went to work and then out for pizzas and a movie.
Had a talk at work with a patient who had been traveling a lot in South America and Mexico in particular. She really liked the tradition of Dias de Los muertos, where Mexicans celebrate and remember their dear ones who have passed away.
She lost her son too early but every 2nd November, she celebrates his memory in a festive way.
Got home at 23.00 and went out to my hallway to snap a picture of this sweet little light in the dark.

EIGHT YEARS 334 DAYS / DAY ONE HUNDRED AND SEVENTEEN: TUESDAY 29 OCTOBER 2024

My body was out of whack and I’ve been waking up with physical anxiety since getting back. I decided not to go down the dark path again so I quickly signed up to my local yoga centre and less than an hour later was in my first ‘heated’* yoga class.

*heated = foggy lens on my camera

My good friend Camilla, a professional photographer and videographer, has been working on a mountainbike movie as a non-funded side project in her spare time the last couple of years.
She had been filming a group of women riding mountain bikes together in all seasons and all weather.
Today she interviewed me in Søndermarken. She will be wrapping up all the loose ends before the premiere on the 29th November in Cinemateket.
Great achievement and I’m so excited to see the final result at the premiere.

EIGHT YEARS 333 DAYS / DAY ONE HUNDRED AND SIXTEEN: MONDAY 28 OCTOBER 2024

It’s a rubbish photo but captures the afternoon. I sourced the tufting gun and frame at the weekend and this morning went out to buy the hessian, set it all up and get going. Momentum….I aim to make 10 pieces and sell them for Christmas.

Picked myself up and went out for a run in my nearby park, Søndermarken, after a not busy but tough day at work.

EIGHT YEARS 332 DAYS / DAY ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTEEN: SUNDAY 27 OCTOBER 2024

I bought a tufting gun from a lady in Exmouth for a good deal and arranged to meet up with my old friends for a long walk along the beach afterwards. It was a glorious sunny day and so lovely to see them again after a long gap due to nothing but life.

The view from my workplace on 15th floor at Rigshospitalet never gets old. Had a lovely relaxed morning, before heading in for an evening shift.

EIGHT YEARS 331 DAYS / DAY ONE HUNDRED AND FOURTEEN: SATURDAY 26 OCTOBER 2024

Rambling on Dartmoor with my rambling group, The Muddy Boots. We made a detour to the ancient remains of a starch factory where they made starch from potatoes on the moors, literally in the middle of nowhere. Pretty amazing to see the beautifully crafted walls and imagine the industry that used to happen here.

Went to work early in the morning, rushed home after my dayshift, put on my fancy clothes, drove to Sorø in the country side, to celebrate 50 years of marriage between Nils & Birgit, good friends of my parents and people I’ve known all my life. We’ve been on canoing and skiing trips plus spent countless new years eve parties together in my youth.
It was great to see loads of old friends and reminisce about childhood.
Also drove all the way home at night, since I had to go to work the next day.

EIGHT YEARS 330 DAYS / DAY ONE HUNDRED AND THIRTEEN: FRIDAY 25 OCTOBER 2024

A friend, Llyr Davies’ opening of his painting exhibition ‘Wreck’ in Kingsbridge, Devon. I’ve been seeing the growth of his exhibitions and this is by far his largest.

Getting up early on a cold and clammy morning to go to Aikido training. Crossing this bridge where the trees brightens an otherwise grey day. Carlbergsviadukten.

EIGHT YEARS 329 DAYS / DAY ONE HUNDRED AND TWELVE: THURSDAY 24 OCTOBER 2024

I have had a squash for a very long time. Today I made ginger, onion, garlic, roasted squash, coconut milk and peanut butter soup.

So proud of my brother, who has been working hard on his Svendeprøve as a gardner.
Got his diploma (svendebrev) and him and all his fellow Svende were celebrated with speeches, draft beer and layercake.

EIGHT YEARS 328 DAYS / DAY ONE HUNDRED AND ELEVEN: WEDNESDAY 23 OCTOBER 2024

Woke up at home sweet home and when I went to have my morning cup of coffee, I happily remembered I had my new mug from Crete to unwrap. I’d managed despite only having hand luggage. Achievement getting i amt back and in one piece. I love it.

Some days are tough and long and it is an achievement just getting through the day and going to bed under a blue moon.
This night the moon was particularly orange and big.

EIGHT YEARS 327 DAYS / DAY ONE HUNDRED AND TEN: TUESDAY 22 OCTOBER 2024

The stars aligned and led me to be in Richmond and misinterpret my train departure time (due to the info on the ticket being misguided) on the same day as my good friend Kirsty’s last day of teaching stained glass at a college there. Which meant we could hang out in her class and I could see where she’d been working for the past 19.7 years! An accidental achievement 🥳

Making steaming windows in the Dojo.
Did some new ways of exercising familiar techniques, which added new knowledge and understanding of the techniques.
I’m not always entering the Dojo with the same amount of concentration or motivation, but always leave the Dojo happy and uplifted.

EIGHT YEARS 326 DAYS / DAY ONE HUNDRED AND NINE: MONDAY 21 OCTOBER 2024

I managed to secure a late check out for our room allowing us to have a lazy final day before our flight home. This included a delicious long lunch at the local very classy restaurant, Ginger. We were planning our timings for the airport, about to have a post lunch siesta when we discovered we needed to leave straight away and catch the bus. No time to dilly dally….off we marched!

Monday back to work and being a bit tired so felt like a great achievement to produce this lovely sweet potato pie with red onions and spinach.
(Did cheat a bit with premade pastry, please don’t tell anyone 😉 )

EIGHT YEARS 325 DAYS / DAY ONE HUNDRED AND EIGHT: SUNDAY 20 OCTOBER 2024

Discovered a locals’ local restaurant which flowed onto the pavements outside shops that were closed. It was simple and perfect. Dolmades, tzaziki, skewers of meat and a small beer. Yes please 🥰

Garden and summer house all sorted and neat. Then time for a nice chilled walk on the lovely beach at Udsholt Strand.

EIGHT YEARS 324 DAYS / DAY ONE HUNDRED AND SEVEN: SATURDAY 19 OCTOBER 2024

Ferry, bus and back in Chania early…a morning of wandering sleepily round town while we waited for our room to be available. And to discover it was in an area of the old town we hadn’t been before and was a fabulous mix of ancient and contemporary made my day.

This little plant in the bottom of the picture, is a butterfly bush brought back from Peter’s parents in Hjerk, Jylland to Udsholt Strand, Sjælland.
Now I have Found a nice spot in the garden and planted it, and it will hopefully survive the winter so that we can accommodate loads of butterflies next year.

EIGHT YEARS 323 DAYS / DAY ONE HUNDRED AND SIX: FRIDAY 18 OCTOBER 2024

Our last day on Anafi. I organised late check out so we could visit the ‘secret’ beach for the last time, pack and have some sleep before walking down to the ferry for 1am. I’ll miss our apartment with one of the most stunning views.

Picking up apples on the lawn so we can mow the lawn (maybe) a last time before winter.
All the apples go in the bush at the back of the garden where animals hopefully will eat some and the rest will most likely become a big pulp of natural cider swamp.

EIGHT YEARS 322 DAYS / DAY ONE HUNDRED AND FIVE: THURSDAY 17 OCTOBER 2024

We walked to the top tip of the town, Hora where we are staying. We had heard that when it is full moon (tonight) as the sun sets the moon rises so we wanted to see this. It was really windy which had caused gorgeous waves on our secret beach in the day but we waited and waited, my feet getting colder and colder….finally we noticed the moon actually rose somewhere else behind hills and clouds and was a huge anticlimax but the views were amazing and we had persevered! We commiserated with gyros and beer. The tip of that mountain is where we climbed to the monastery the other day.

Busy but great day at work with favourite colleagues. Love my job and still find it challenging and rewarding.
After work hurried home on the bike, so we could head up to our summerhouse.
Finding the garden looking stunning in autumn colours and seeing that this little flower planted in the summer, still illuminating with strength and beauty. Aahh.

EIGHT YEARS 321 DAYS / DAY ONE HUNDRED AND FOUR: WEDNESDAY 16 OCTOBER 2024

Anafi is so dry and has apparently been suffering from no rain even in the seasons it is supposed to have rain…these flowers pop up all over the island and are so fresh and delicate. It amazes me how they exist in such a dry climate.

Passing this street, where a dentist’s daughter used to live, on my way home from the dentist.
Was applauded by my dentist, for my thorough brushing, but need to floss more. No holes so I’m happy. Going to the dentist has been on the to-do list for a while so great to get it done.

EIGHT YEARS 320 DAYS / DAY ONE HUNDRED AND THREE: TUESDAY 15 OCTOBER 2024

Our sweet set up in prime location overlooking the sea…shady hammock with tiny mice and lizards to watch…the sea to hear and the warmth of the sun to heal all troubles.

After work, walking to Aikido class, noticing the nice pattern in the pavement accentuated by a splatter of leaves and the perfection in imperfection.
At training realising that the biggest lesson so far is that letting go of your ego is one of the most important parts of training.

EIGHT YEARS 318 DAYS / DAY ONE HUNDRED AND ONE: SUNDAY 13 OCTOBER 2024

Exploring the local paths led us to a little secret nudist beach. A heavenly day of relaxation, swimming, reading and listening to podcasts followed. Perfect.

Gunhild’s 77th birthday, she liked her present. A striped shirt, she almost always wears stripes. So achieved joy and appreciation with the present.
Also time for a walk while Gunhild & Niels had a long nap before guests came for ‘boller og lagkage’  (buns and layercake).

EIGHT YEARS 316 DAYS / DAY NINETY-NINE: FRIDAY 11 OCTOBER 2024

We rode the moped we’d hired across the island to a monastery where we visited the nun and her monastery and she gave us the greek version of Turkish delight. We played with the cutest friendliest kittens, then walked to the top of the mountain to visit another monastery. The views of the ocean and vast rocky mountain were stunning.

Inviting nature inside and feeling immediate stress relief.

(Capaldi, C.A., et al., International Journal of Wellbeing, Vol. 5, No. 4, 2015). The biophilia hypothesis argues that since our ancestors evolved in wild settings and relied on the environment for survival, we have an innate drive to connect with nature. The stress reduction hypothesis posits that spending time in nature triggers a physiological response that lowers stress levels. A third idea, attention restoration theory, holds that nature replenishes one’s cognitive resources, restoring the ability to concentrate and pay attention.
